Bruno Senna Lotus Renault GP Third Driver
Fresh from his first full season of Formula 1, Bruno Senna arrives at Enstone as one of the team’s third drivers for 2011. Although a latecomer to motorsport, Bruno’s rise through the ranks has been remarkable.
He started his career in British F3 in 2005 before moving to the GP2 Series in 2007 where he immediately showed his raw speed and talent.
By 2008 he was fighting for the GP2 Series title, narrowly missing out on winning the championship in the final race, finishing as series runner-up.
A move to sports cars in 2009 and a shot at the Le Mans 24 hours proved a stepping stone to Formula 1 as Bruno made his debut at the start of 2010 with Hispania Racing.

Bruno, congratulations on your new role with Lotus Renault GP – how does it feel to be part of the team?
It’s a great moment for me. I’ve been trying to get into a good Formula 1 programme for a couple of years so it feels great to be joining such an established team. I’m proud of this achievement and thankful for the opportunity that I’ve been given.

What do you think of the team’s new livery – will it feel special to wear these iconic colours?
It’s probably the most attractive colour scheme in Formula 1 history. Black and gold looked beautiful back in the 1980s, when my uncle was racing, and they look just as stunning on a current car. Also, to be able to wear the same colours that my uncle used for a few years in his career feels very special.

You visited Enstone recently, what did you think of the facilities?
I was very impressed. When you walk around the factory you can see how much is going on behind the scenes and how hard everybody is pushing to take the team forward. Everyone is optimistic that the team will take a big jump forward in performance this year.

What do you hope to learn in your role as third driver?
This year will be all about integrating myself with the team and extracting the most I can from being in such a competitive environment. Being part of this project will give me so much valuable experience and it’s down to me to make the most of it. I hope that I can develop myself and prove to the team that I should be given an opportunity for the future.

BRUNO SENNA JOINS GROUP LOTUS FAMILY
The iconic Senna name is once again united with Lotus as Bruno Senna signs with Lotus Renault GP as third driver and also becomes the latest ambassador for Group Lotus. Bruno’s test driving role with Group Lotus is very development focussed and will see him provide valuable input into all Lotus cars, both track and road.
Commenting on the announcement Bruno Senna said: 'It’s a really exciting opportunity from both Group Lotus and Lotus Renault GP. To be able to develop my Formula One career within a World Championship winning organisation and to do so in conjunction with some hugely interesting work for such an iconic sports car company as Lotus is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
“Lotus has placed a great deal of faith in me and I am looking forward to beginning work on the technical side of our relationship. Giving feedback into the development of the Lotus road and race programs will be a fun but challenging way to spend time between my Formula One commitments as a reserve driver for Lotus Renault GP.
“My relationship with Lotus is just at the beginning, for me the aim is to continue to make progress in my Formula One career whilst at the same time contributing to the success of the various Lotus projects I will be involved with. There are some fun times ahead!"
Lotus Director of Motorsport Claudio Berro said: “We’re delighted to have Bruno on board. In his young motorsport career he’s built up a great armoury of skills and experience. He’s a fast learner and this talent combined with his ability to shift between different types of race car will make him a great asset to Lotus. Normally people like to talk about the ‘technology transfer’ between F1 and road cars but in Bruno’s case we’re opening this up to an intellectual transfer – we’re certainly going to keep him busy!"

Entrevista com Bruno Senna em Valência
O jornalista Luis Fernando Ramos - ICO- esteve presente hoje ao lançamento do R31 novo carro da Lotus Renault GP e conversou com Bruno Senna, apresentado como piloto reserva da equipe.
Segue matéria:
"No motorhome preto e dourado da equipe Renault Lotus no circuito Ricardo Tormo em Valência, a coisa mais fácil de se ver era o sorriso de Bruno Senna.
"Estou contente prá caramba", afirmou o brasileiro, que fechou de última hora um contrato como terceiro piloto do time. A novidade encerrou um período de tantas negociações como de incertezas. E, num período em que o mercado da Fórmula 1 está inflacionado com pilotos pagantes, veio unicamente pelo potencial que os chefes da equipe vêem no piloto.
"Estou contente prá caramba", afirmou o brasileiro, que fechou de última hora um contrato como terceiro piloto do time. A novidade encerrou um período de tantas negociações como de incertezas. E, num período em que o mercado da Fórmula 1 está inflacionado com pilotos pagantes, veio unicamente pelo potencial que os chefes da equipe vêem no piloto.
"O Eric Boullier me conhece desde a GP2, sabe do que eu sou capaz e me deu uma chance para ver se eu consigo construir meu futuro. Eu estava um pouco pessimista e por isso eu digo que realmente estou muito grato pela oportunidade. Não havia muitas oportunidades que realmente valessem a pena. E esta é uma delas. Não tive de me comprometer financeiramente, a estrutura do time é muito boa quanto a isso. Dá para dizer que é o primeiro emprego de piloto profissional que estou tendo e isto é extremamente satisfatório", ponderou.
A possibilidade de Bruno Senna andar em treinos livres às sextas não foi acertada, mas também não está descartada. O próprio Boullier confirmou que isto pode acontecer caso os engenheiros considerem que a oportunidade ao brasileiro não interfira no cronograma prevista para a dupla titular, formada por Robert Kubica e Vitaly Petrov.
De qualquer jeito, Bruno terá a oportunidade de acumular quilometragem em testes com o carro do ano passado e em testes aerodinâmicos com o atual, o R31. A possibilidade de pilotar um carro com preto e dourado como o do tio Ayrton Senna o deixa entusiasmado:
"É demais a sensação. Estou louco para poder sentar um dia nesse carro e competir com essas cores. Seria a realização de um sonho. É o carro mais bonito do grid e ponto final", decreta ele.
Será muito interessante avaliar o desempenho do brasileiro caso um eventual teste com o carro novo aconteça. Boullier confirmou que Bruno Senna o impressionou na campanha da GP2 em 2008. E sua participação na confusa equipe Hispânia acabou por deixar nublada a chance de avaliar com clareza seu potencial na F-1. Seria muito bacana ver o que ele consegue fazer com um carro de verdade. "
